With the Alberta Government announcing 17 new cases of COVID-19 in our province over the weekend, they implemented aggressive new measures to help combat the spread, including prohibiting students from kindergarten to post-secondary from attending classes in their regular schools.

So, what does this mean for the rest of you or your child's school year?

While most post-secondary institutions have already been preparing to make the switch to mainly online classes due to COVID-19, some non-post-secondary school boards are still scrambling to figure out the best way to provide education to their students for the rest of the winter semester.

Regardless of how that happens, Minister of Education Adriana LaGrange did indicate all students will receive finals marks this year and will continue to progress to the next grade, including graduation.

The first thing school boards are asking for is patience.

Just like parents, the school boards were informed of this decision by the Alberta Government Sunday evening, so it will likely take a few days for them to figure out how to continue with the winter semester while all of their students are at home.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available on what the different Central Alberta school boards plan to do.
