When it comes to having fun, one couple thinks Lacombe needs more options.

Stan and Amy L'Hirondelle have applied to the city to open a laser tag arena. Their request was approved by Lacombe's municipal planning commission last night.

The couple plans to operate their facility in a two-storey building on 46th Street. On the main floor will be an arcade and room for birthday parties. On top: a 2000 square-foot arena.

Stan says searching for activities to keep their own kids occupied led to the idea.

"We brought our kids here and thought, 'What else can we do here,'" he says. "The town needs something for the kids. We figured something that was open to everybody all the time would be a fun place to have in Lacombe."

Operating hours would occur during weekday evenings and start on weekend afternoons.

They're banking on the many young families in the area seeking fun activities for their kids.

Stan thinks laser tag will appeal to wide clientele.

"When I was a young teen, I worked in laser tag. It was fun for everybody of all ages. Old dudes would run in there, lots of young kids and birthday parties. I also worked at a paintball place in Cochrane. Everybody likes to shoot each other, period. It's fun," he says.
