On Dec. 18, 2016 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Tofield RCMP responded to a report of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 834 south of Tofield.

A car was travelling southbound on Highway 834 when it crossed over into the northbound lane and collided with an SUV.

At the time of the collision, the 91-year-old lone male occupant of the car from Tofield sustained serious life threatening injuries and was transported via STARS to an Edmonton hospital.

He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The 88-year-old male driver and 70-year-old female passenger of the SUV, both from Wetaskiwin, were transferred via EMS to hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Traffic was diverted for several hours while members along with a RCMP Collision Analyst conducted the investigation.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
