With nearly 20 years of Town Council experience behind him, the last 7 as Mayor, Dennis Cooper hopes to continue to serve the Town of Penhold as Mayor for another 4 years.

The veteran politician is seeking re-election this fall, and that long time experience will be key to his platform, Cooper says he was first elected to Council in 1995.

“3 years, then I took 3 years off, then I came back and I was a Councillor for another 9 years, and then I’ve been the Mayor for 7. I’ve pretty well chaired every committee and group including first annexation of Penhold; as well we just finished working on the second annexation of Penhold.”

Cooper says there is plenty of growth on the horizon for Penhold in the next 4 years.

“Number 1, finish the water reservoir, so we have a better supply of water in town so we are not on the edge of water rationing all the time. Number 2, I worked with Mayor Wood a lot on the annexation so we’re going to wind up with 9 quarters of land and so now we have to start planning and working on developing those quarters and brining more businesses into town and with more businesses it’s more jobs, more families. There will be a new school built in Penhold within 3-4 years”.

Cooper is proud of the strides the Town has made in recent years, obtaining a cell tower to provide better reception, the addition of a multi-plex and new high school, the start of a fall festival, a new mall development and securing a bank for the community, all while managing to hold the line on taxes.
