More proof of the generosity of Central Albertans as Pas Ka Poo Park in Rimbey picks up the pieces following a devastating loss at the hands of vandals last week.

Late last Thursday afternoon a number of the historic buildings in the Park were damaged, Park Administrator and Museum Curator Cheryl Jones explains what she arrived to following a call from the RCMP.

“They had broken over 35 windows in the historical buildings of the museum here, we have over 18 buildings here at the park and the most devastating was the painted glass window in the church that’s over 120 years old, it’s irreplaceable. It was Rimbey’s 1st church and it was actually what started the park”.

Despite the devastation, Jones says a group of volunteers showed up the next day to clean up all of the glass and secure the buildings and a generous donor has since come forward.

“We did have a wonderful anonymous donor went down to the glass place in town here, JT Glass that came out to measure all of the windows and they stopped into JT Glass and they’re going to pay for the glass. The glass replacing itself is over $1400 but the clean-up and the wood for the contractor to board up all the windows is an extra cost as well”.

Jones says they had hoped to hold some special events for Canada's 150th, but they're not sure if they'll be able to go ahead with anything as funds are now tight for the non-profit group.

RCMP in Rimbey believe they've identified the youth responsible for the damage.
