Some are without a home and others without their local watering hole after a fiery devastation in Wetaskiwin today (March 19, 2019.)

Around 6:30 A.M. fire crews were called to the Rose Country Inn which was engulfed in flames.

Wetaskiwin residents watched as the bar burnt to the ground and some, including Katie Halas who owns the Agape Community Outreach just around the corner stepped up to offer support.

“This community is huge on taking care of our own, we always step up, there were people coming up to the fire department bringing water, coffee and donuts.”

The Inn was redone and renovated multiple times, and was a restaurant, hotel, liquor store and home to some.

“It’s really sad, it’s a piece of our history gone but a lot of people have a lot of good memories from that place so hopefully they can take that with them,” explains Halas.

There is no word yet on what caused the fiery blaze, and no injuries were reported.
