Red Deer residents now have a new way to receive infromation during emergency situations and for updates on snow plowing.

The City of Red Deer launched its mass notification system this week called Notify Red Deer, which lets you choose how to receive information and what information you want to receive.

Senior Communications Consultant, Amara Heppell says, you can choose to get an alert through your e-mail, text message or phone call "we're really adjusting how we communicate with residents in a way they want to be commuicated with, for example text messaging is a really easy way to get ahold of people so now we've modernized our communication methods to connect with residents in an easier way".

Heppell adds you can sign up here and the first 5000 to do so will be entered to win a one year family recreation pass.
