Red Deer residents have an opportunity to provide their two cents on how they would like to see their tax dollars spent at a budget open house today.

Mayor, Council and City Administration will be on hand for the input session as planning is already underway for the 2018 budget.

Planning for the future is vital and the City wants to ensure their agenda reflects the needs and priorities of residents.

Chief Financial Officer Dean Krejci says there are a couple of areas that garner a lot of public input each year.

“What sort of recreation and other community facilities or infrastructure that the citizens would like to see built in the community, certainly we always have a good discussion about taxes and usually about appropriate levels of debt.”

Krejci says they'll also be looking to gain general feedback on City operations.

“In addition to the strict budget information we always have representatives from the other departments. They are there just to discuss general services and service levels with the citizens as well”.

Today's open house runs from 4-7pm at Festival Hall.
