In the words of Lacombe mayor Steve Christie, “the sky is the limit” for future development of lands near the interchange of the QE ll and Highway 12 at the west edge of Lacombe.

At a ceremony this morning, both the Joint Economic Area Servicing and Capital Project Contribution Agreements were signed by the City of Lacombe and Lacombe County, taking one step forward in the West Area Serving Project.

With both parties fully on board, Christie said there’s a lot to look forward to.

“Working together and understanding what fits where and the serving that will be included with different areas is good for both sides and we can work together in attracting businesses, which we do already.”

“The joint revenue sharing is a big plus for the City and services are a big plus for the County.”

Economic Area Servicing Agreement outlines the details of how services will be provided and their costs, and the Capital Project Contribution Agreement, outlines the details of how the shares of the project will be paid and how construction will move forward.

Once the area is serviced and land is ready to be constructed on, Law said the possibilities are endless for future development.

“There’s an area structure plan for that area and there is certain areas that have been identified for highway commercial, some for industrial and I believe in another area there’s possibility for residential.”

“So it does open it up.”

In addition to the two agreements, the City and County also created a Memorandum of Agreement with the North Red Deer River Water Services Commission that will ensure the County water allocation will flow through the City without affecting their water flow.

The project, which includes a $3.5 million intersection upgrade of 76 street and Highway 12 is expected to cost just over $15 million.
