If all goes according to plan, you could start seeing some construction work start this summer on a facelift to Popow's auto wrecking shop after Lacombe City Council approved some amendments to an area structure plan for the industrial area last night.

Popow's is working with Tricon Developments on their plans to not only give their current shop a facelift, but to add a towing shop and re-locate their auto body shop from 49th Street as part of a 3 phase project.

City of Lacombe Acting Manager of Planning and Development Deb Bonnett says the changes Council approved to the Southeast Area Structure Plan were essential to paving the way for Powpow`s plans to move ahead.

This existing business couldn’t have expanded without these amendments taking place, no improvements could take place. So with a long standing business like this, for them to have the ability to expand and improve, they need to go forward and amend these plans”

The City wants heavy industrial businesses to stay, and to encourage other industrial facilities to consider upgrades, they consider Popow's an anchor to the area on 46th Street.
