Runners from all over the province braved the weather for Bill’s Trail Run on Saturday.

The run happens every year, and this year they had around 367 people that crossed the finish line.

Diane Hayduk is the president of the trail society, and was very happy with the turnout.

“We had a fantastic day, it was a little nippy but we had a great time, we had a couple of the cross country teams from Red Deer come out and participated too and they did phenomenal.”

The run is to remember Bill Nielsen, who ran 100 marathons in his time, suffering with Parkinson’s disease for more than 30 of them.

His wife and kids were at the event on Saturday to hand out ribbons to those marathoners who crossed the line.

Hayduk said it was a great day to remember Bill, and it brought people from all sorts of running capabilities.

“We even had people that usually run 100 kilometers that came out for the ‘10K’ it was awesome.”

Bill is said to have been an inspiration to runners and brought out the good reasons in it for everyone.

The next run will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
