Youth HQ announced Wednesday morning that a charity slo-pitch tournament held in Blackfalds has raised more than $14,000.

The money will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Red Deer and District.

“That will allow us to put that directly to operations with our programs. To be able to serve youth throughout our communities. That’s going to easily have a couple days a week of programming run for the school year for at least 20 kids,” said Les Waite, program manager.

True-Line Homes has been organizing the tournament for the last decade.

In seven years, it has raised more than $50,000 for the Boys and Girls Club.

“We started in Year 1 and it’s been a success. Every year, we keep saying, let’s do it again, let’s do it again, to keep giving back,” said Derek Fredeen, a site supervisor for the company.

This was the final year True-Line would be organizing the tournament. However, it will still be played in the future as the Kinsmen will now be taking over.
