Cold weather never stops local charities from raising funds around Christmas time.

A Charity Check stop is held every year to raise money for Red Deer's Women's Outreach, Christmas Bureau, M.A.D.D and the Red Deer Food Bank.

They park along Taylor Drive and those that want to can pull over and donate food, money or toys.

In the end, the proceeds will get donated between all four organizations.

Darcy Ouellet with Women's Outreach says even though the economy is a little rough, people always seem to donate what they can.

“We’ll have a bunch of pylons and anyone wishing to donate they basically just merge into the inside lane whether they are going north or south, we do both sides. They can stop and give us a donation, empty their ashtray full of change, we’ll take anything we can get, and any toys or food that they want to donate.”

Ouellet with the program says sometimes they don't have enough families to adopt others at Christmas time so they use the funds to help them out.

“It’s a great fundraiser for us, it really is, it’s a good chunk of change in just a few hours so it definitely makes a difference for the families that we don’t actually get matched to a sponsor, so if we run short of sponsors we have these funds available to make sure they still get something so we don’t turn anybody away.”

He says the money they raise for their organization will go towards their Adopt-a-Family Christmas program.

They will be on Taylor Drive, north of 32nd street this Saturday, December 1st, from 10 am to 4 pm.
