All of City of Red Deer’s capital projects, concerning the 2019 Canada Winter Games, are on time and on budget.

The City of Red Deer held a press conference this morning providing an update on some of the major projects taking place, as they gear up for the Games.

The Great Chief Park and River Bend Golf and Recreation Area enhancements are two of the many projects under construction, which are set to open early 2018. 2019 Canada Winter Games Board Chair Lyn Ranford said the excitement behind the opening of all the projects is growing.

“We’re going to bring Canada into our community and we’re going to host. So that message has come down from our board, and we talk about bold spirit and we talk about engaging people, and that’s really what we want to do.”

The City also launched a video at their presentation, highlighting all the current projects, something Mayor Tara Veer says is important to show off.

“As part of our accountability, we wanted to give an update to our community in where we are at in terms of our construction schedule. They’ll see how exactly how the games are transforming in our city, in a way that we wouldn’t otherwise necessarily been eligible for.”

Upgrades to the Canyon Ski Resort are expected to be complete in 2018, while construction of the Canada Games Celebration Plaza will begin this fall.
