Like most municipalities in Canada, Lacombe County is getting ready for the legalization of marijuana, and they want to know how their residents feel about it, in terms of sale, regulations, consumption, and enforcement.

Senior Planner with Lacombe County Anita O'Driscoll says they will be hosting public Cannabis in your Community meetings Tuesday night in Bentley and Wednesday evening in Mirror, where residents can ask any questions they have on all things dealing with legal weed.

“We’re actually partnering this with Alberta Health Services as well; they ran some really good meeting across the province just to get people talking about what it means to have cannabis legalized, what are the concerns, what are not the concerns, what we should be thinking about. Getting ahead of the process before legalization.”

O'Driscoll talks about what the county's main concerns are.

“Just to make sure that we try to mitigate any negative impacts. This is something that’s going to happen, it must be accommodated, and to make sure that we do it right, that’s always our ultimate goal, to try and cater to the concerns of our residents and what our residents would like to see happen, and put in place some regulations surrounding it.”

The meeting Tuesday night in Bentley will be at the community hall from 6 pm until 9 pm, and Wednesday night at the same time at the Mirror Hall.
