An amphitheatre, potential concert venue and new playground for Central Middle School could all be part of Phase 2 of the Canada Winter Games Celebration Plaza in downtown Red Deer, if the funds can be raised.

City council heard an update from the Canada Winter Games on its Celebration Plaza on Monday afternoon.

Phase 1 makes up the Plaza Hub, located west of the Central Elementary School site, which includes a feature wall, a ramp and steps integrated into 48 Avenue. Medal presentations could end up being held there.

“We will have that completed for the Games for the footprint of the festival. Phase 2 we will really hope for, really work hard towards making that happen,” said Lyn Radford, board chair of the Games.

Radford said one funding source will be the Sheraton Celebrity Dance Off. She added they will look into what grants are available for Phase 2, which does not come with a price tag yet.
