After years of fundraising, and thanks to generous donors from the community, as well as multiple successful fundraisers like the Sheraton Celebrity Dance Off, the brand new Eagles Nest Rotary Lodge at Camp Alexo will be open for business this summer.

The building is being officially opened in June, and will be available for kids to use this summer.

The building is the final step in the Camp Alexo Master Plan which began back in 2014, and has taken a few years, 1,060 volunteers donating over 38,000 hours, and about $2,400,000 in funds raised.

The camp, put on by Youth HQ in Red Deer offers a wide variety of recreational, residential, and adventure based wilderness programs for children and youth 7-17 years of age, and is located in 70km west of Rocky Mountain House.

Kris Fleckenstein is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Youth HQ, and he says resources are available for anyone who may have trouble getting to the camp.

"Whoever wants to go to summer camp is definitely welcome to get to our camp. We do have a campership fund, so any kids that are not able to afford it, or their parents are unable to afford it, we're able to support that. So all kids are welcome."

They also run shuttles from Innisfail and Red Deer, so anyone from around Alberta who wants to go, they simply need to get to get to a shuttle and they will ship them to the camp.
