Three seperated incidents where canoes were turned upside down on the North Saskatchewa River, stranding a total of nine people.
 
Incident #1
 
On June 16, 2017 the Rocky Mountain House RCMP and Clearwater Fire received a request for assistance on the North Saskatchewan River. A canoe had capsized near the big horn dam, causing four adults and 1 youth to be stranded on the shore of a small island.
 
Fire, EMS, Search and Rescue and RCMP were dispatched. Fire rescue deployed their Zodiac jet boat and ferried the individuals to the main land. Search and Rescue met and assisted the individuals when they arrived on shore getting them safely back to their vehicle. No injuries were reported during this incident.
 
Incident #2
 
On June 17, 2017 the Rocky Mountain House RCMP and Clearwater Fire received a request for assistance on the North Saskatchewan River.  A canoe had capsized near the big horn dam for the second day in a row, causing two adults to be stranded on a logs in the river. Both parties were wearing personal floatation devices.
 
Fire, EMS, Search and Rescue and RCMP were dispatched.  Fire rescue deployed their Zodiac jet boat and ferried the individuals to the main land. RCMP and Search and Rescue met and assisted the individuals when they arrived on shore getting them safely back to their vehicle.
 
No injuries were reported during this incident. The water levels on the North Saskatchewan River are extremely high. The public are being asked to stay off the water until the water levels recede.
 
Incident #3
 
On June 17, 2017 the Rocky Mountain House RCMP were contacted by the International Emergency Response Coordination Centre reporting that two males had capsized their canoe in the North Saskatchewan River near the Saunders Recreation Area.
 
The canoe continued down the river and one male was stranded on the north side of the river and one male was stranded on the south side of the river. RCMP deployed their jet boat and recovered both individuals and returned them to their vehicles.
 
Both parties were wearing personal floatation devices. The water levels on the North Saskatchewan River are extremely high. The public are being asked to stay off the water until the water levels recede.
