Business owners in Lacombe have mixed feelings about staying open on Sunday's.

The topic has come up several times as of late, by organizers of Lacombe Days looking for more businesses to be open during the annual Festival, and through Lacombe Regional Tourism's latest Visitor Friendly Assessment.

Owner of Home Hardware Tyler Nowochin along with owner of Red Hot Threads Krystal Rundell believes it would be great for Lacombe if more businesses would stay open.

“We are pushing everybody out of town because the consensus is Lacombe is dead on Sunday and one or two people being open isn’t going to affect that negative persona,” said Nowochin.

“No one else is open so I’m kind of hesitant right now, but I really want to start doing it and I think it would be good if other businesses started as well,” said Rundell.

Owner of Sweet Capone’s Carina Moran and the owner of the Station Foti Vassious said they agree it would benefit the City, but understand why some businesses would like to remain closed.

“I would like to be closed on Sunday, but Sunday’s are really good days for me,” said Vassious.

“The values of spending time with time the family on Sunday are very important to us and that’s one thing I’ve always loved about Lacombe. They have always maintained those old fashion values and I think that’s what makes the town so special.”

We also hit the streets over the weekend to hear how the public feels.

“When I drive all the way her from Gull Lake to go shopping and stuff is closed I get upset.”

“I prefer that they are closed on Sunday. I believe we all deserve a day of rest and most people in this community choose that day.”

“I just plan around it usually for Saturdays or Mondays. It’s just really hard to get stuff done when everything is always closed.”

“I’m fine with them being closed, in fact I wish they were.”

“Nothing worse than going into a town and finding everything closed up.”

Due to the number of businesses that close up shop on Sunday's in Lacombe, Lacombe Regional Tourism said many choose to spend their free time on the weekend in Red Deer.
