Lacombe Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Kids' Sake is coming soon, with fundraisers already happening around town and in some local schools, with the main event being on March 10th.

It's the 30th year for the Bowl of Kids' Sake, and it helps pay for important programs such as community and in school mentoring.

The annual event is happening down at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, and as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lacombe Crystal Zens explains, the Centres lack of bowling lanes won't stop the annual event.

“We actually do a virtual event now down at the LMC. It’s on March 10th is our great big bowl, and we have an 80s theme with a DJ this year and it’s a lot of fun. Tournament style format, you can have teams of four.”

Zens says there is an in-school portion of the fundraiser that involves bringing the bowling directly into the schools.

“We have about seven schools hosting our in-school Wii bowling fundraisers. So the kids will fundraise, then we come over a lunch hour in March and we set up the entire gym in a Wii bowling tournament and we have tons of fun and they bowl for an hour and have prizes and that’s sort of their reward for fundraising.”

The Ponoka Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters is also having their Bowl for Kids celebration on March 9th at the Leisure Lanes Bowling Centre.
