Bowden Fire Services responded to a structure fire late last night east of the town of Bowden.

Upon arrival crews found large amounts of smoke coming from the house.

Thanks to fast action by responders the house was saved, however major smoke damage occurred during the blaze.

After closer inspection, the cause of the fire was found to be an improperly maintained chimney.

Red Deer County Fire Services would like to remind the public about the importance of proper chimney maintenance, as the cold weather leads to more fireplaces in use.

The County would also like to acknowledge the Innisfail Fire Department, who assisted on the scene.
