The precautionary Boil Water Advisory issued on Wednesday for West Lake and West Park has been lifted, with the exception of 68 houses on West Park Crescent and Red Deer College.

“Testing came back negative for the majority of properties within the advisory and these residents can resume regular water use,” said Alex Monkman, Water Superintendent. “However, further testing is required in specific areas and we’re working with Alberta Health Services to conduct this testing as quickly as possible.”

Properties that remain within the Boil Water Advisory are from 5701 to 5854 West Park Crescent, as well as Red Deer College.

City of Red Deer staff have notified these properties directly that they will remain under the Boil Water Advisory until further testing is completed.

For the remainder the properties, City staff will not be providing door to door notifications; however, electronic message boards in the area will be updated and alerts will be sent out using Notify Red Deer.

“We’re encouraging residents to help us spread the word by telling their neighbours that the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted,” said Monkman.

Story from Wednesday

Following a drop in water pressure this morning, The City has issued precautionary boil water advisory for the neighbourhoods of West Park and West Lake.

Affected residents and businesses will be notified by hand delivered notices.

Electronic sign boards will also be used in affected areas.

An emergency notification will be sent to affected residents using Notify Red Deer, The City's emergency notification system.

Residents are asked to boil their water for drinking, cooking, washing food, or brushing teeth.

The water can be made safe by boiling it for at least one minute at a rolling boil.

Boiled water should be stored in a clean container in the refrigerator.

Alternatively, bottled water can be used.

More information can be found on reddeer.ca.

The Boil Water Advisory will be in place until water tests confirm that there is no contamination.

City of Red Deer employees will deliver notices door-to-door to affected homes and businesses when the advisory is lifted, and electronic sign boards will be updated.

A map of affected addresses is available online at reddeer.ca/boilwater.

Residents can sign up to receive text, email and phone notifications at reddeer.ca/notifyreddeer.
