Wolf Creek Public Schools and the Chinook's Edge School Division are giving their support to the formation of a Rural School Boards Caucus.

The Board Chair of Buffalo Trail Public Schools in Wainwright has spearheaded the idea, building off a recent meeting with the Education Minister after several rural school boards banded together to address rural transportation issues.

Board Chair of Buffalo Trail Public Schools, Darcy Eddleston, said he felt they may be able to unite their voices more in the future.

“Are there more issues that are rural based that we can work together on? We want to see if enough school boards think there’s a place for this caucus. If there are enough that want to get involved, what will the format be? How will we get set up? That’s where we’re at right now.”

Eddleston added the biggest challenge rural school boards are facing are declining populations in rural Alberta and funding models that see programs funded on a per student basis, pinching budgets and making it hard for school boards to provide services.
