On the heels of a number of requests for the licensing of food trucks in Blackfalds in the last year, the Town is going to revamp their Business License Bylaw.

The current bylaw does not include guidelines for the operation of mobile vending units.

Mayor Melodie Stol says they want to ensure they can support those looking to do business in the community “Blackfalds is very supportive of seeing mobile food trucks, so we just want to update our bylaw to make sure that they can operate in Blackfalds. We have some great food truck owners who live in Blackfalds and operate their business and they go not only to Blackfalds but to a number of other communities, just want to make sure they can be successful in town as well”.

The Town will soon be entering into a public consultation process to get some feedback on the new provisions according to Stol “planning and development staff will be taking the bylaw directly to a Chamber of Commerce meeting and talking with the business owners about the changes and about what they would like to see in the bylaw and then it’s going to come back for a public hearing so that anyone in the community can provide feedback”.

The Public Hearing is set for May 9th.
