Blackfalds RCMP have been pleased with just how smooth the transition to a roundabout has been at the intersection of Highway 2A and Highway 597.

The two lane roundabout opened up to traffic late the summer of 2015.

Detachment Commander Ken Morrison says it’s been working well “really surprised with it, it has the traffic flowing a fair bit faster, as well the public for the most part seems to be dealing with it well. We’ve had a few minor fender benders there, but overall not nearly what we expected. I’m actually fairly proud of the community; they seem to have embraced the roundabout and are working well with it”.

He is however reminding you to use your signal lights to navigate the roundabout “you have to signal anytime you are changing direction, so once you pick your lane it’s important to signal. This is one of the key things that we’re noticing, is people aren’t signaling indicating their direction and indicating that they are coming out of the roundabout which is kind of leaving it difficult for other drivers to understand which way they are going”.
