From Sylvan Lake RCMP:

Charges have been laid against a Bentley man following an investigation into property crimes in the rural area.

On January 25, the Sylvan Lake RCMP arrested 24-year-old Jesse David Haarstad on numerous outstanding arrest warrants.

During the arrest, officers discovered that Haarstad was in possession of a key for a stolen vehicle that was parked near his residence. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Haarstad’s Bentley residence and recovered stolen mail, stolen identity documents, firearms and other property believed to be stolen.

As a result of this investigation, Haarstad has been charged with the following offenses:

  1. One count of Possession of stolen property over $5000
  2. Six counts of possession of stolen property under $5000
  3. Four counts of illegal possession of a firearm
  4. One count of careless storage of a firearm
  5. Four counts of Fraudulent possession of identity documents
  6. Two counts of fraudulently possessing credit card data
  7. Two counts of illegal possession of mail
  8. One count of illegal possession of a forged document
  9. One count of breaching a release condition.

“Targeted enforcement of known offenders is a key part of our crime reduction strategy,” says Staff Sergeant Andrew Shepherd, Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment commander. “Anyone with information on people involved in these crimes is encouraged to share that information with police and help us ensure our communities are safe and secure.”

The investigation is continuing and further charges are expected. Haarstad has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on February 5th, 2018 in Red Deer Provincial Court.
