There was plenty of recognition for municipal leaders from central Alberta in Calgary yesterday at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association convention.

Two former Mayors were recognized with Awards of Excellence for outstanding civic leadership, former Lacombe Mayor Steve Christie and former Blackfalds Mayor Melodie Stol.

The Town of Blackfalds was also recognized with a Municipal Sustainability in Action Award for the success of the Wadey Centre Project, which saw the 101 year old heritage home transformed into a Visitor Information Centre and offices for the Blackfalds Chamber and Historical Society.

Retiring Sylvan Lake CAO Betty Osmond also received a tip of the hat at the awards ceremony receiving the AUMA's Dedicated Chief Administrative Officer Award, which recognizes individuals who have served over 10 years as a CAO, working with a high level of integrity to make an outstanding contribution.

Osmond has held the title of CAO for 11 years, the last 7 in Sylvan Lake.
