Tuesday, Rocky Mountain House RCMP arrested and charged 23-year-old Chaz Ryan Anderson of Rocky Mountain House in relation to a March 2016 fatal hit and run collision on the Sunchild First Nation.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2017, at approximately 8:55 p.m., members of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment responded to a report of a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle on the Sunchild First Nation.

The pedestrian, 55-year-old Billy Joseph Yellowface, was deceased at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that the vehicle which allegedly struck Mr. Yellowface did not stop and fled scene after the collision.

Just over one hour later that same night in March, police received a report of a vehicle burning at an abandoned residence located approximately one kilometre from the collision scene.

Investigators of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP Detachment’s General Investigation Section (GIS) were able to link the two incidents during the course of their investigation.

Chaz Ryan Anderson (23) of Rocky Mountain House faces several charges in relation to the fatal collision including one count of failing to remain at the scene of a collision and one count of operating a vehicle while disqualified; both are Criminal Code offences.

He was remanded in custody until May 17, 2017, to speak to the charges.
