If your car needed a boost this morning, you weren’t the only one.

Randy Loyk, manager of technical services at the Alberta Motor Association (AMA) said most of their calls lately have been due to the cold.

“The road conditions aren’t too bad. The majority of our calls right now are service calls, so things involving tires, boosting, locked out calls,” Loyk said, adding that wait times for assistance today were at one hour.

Loyk advises drivers to plug in their vehicles for the next few days.

“Any temperatures cooler than minus-15 Celsius, you should start plugging in your vehicle. This keeps everything warm in your engine, your oil, it allows your engine to turn over much quicker,” he said.

“We also strongly recommend when you do change your oil, you change it over a synthetic brand oil.”

Loyk said for those who must travel, make sure fluids and fuel are topped up and carry an emergency kit.
