Red Deer RCMP arrested 65 people and executed 127 warrants last week during a four-day warrant round-up, clearing a total of 187 charges that included some new ones when suspects were found to be breaking laws at the time of their arrest.

In the warrant round-up, Red Deer RCMP targeted a range of offenders, including prolific property crime offenders, domestic violence offenders, people active in identity, mail and credit card theft, and repeat traffic offenders.

One 30 year old woman targeted in last week’s sweep was wanted on 29 warrants out of Red Deer, Lacombe, and Innisfail for theft from mail, weapons and drug charges.

A 28 year old man was arrested after he failed to appear in court on a number of assault charges stemming from several domestic violence files.

Another 34 year old Red Deer man well known to police was picked up on warrants after failing to appear in court on charges of credit card theft, property crimes, a drug charge and failing to comply with conditions.

On the traffic side, RCMP arrested a 33 year old woman who was wanted on warrants for repeated traffic charges going back to 2015 for driving an uninsured, unregistered vehicle, and repeatedly failing to appear in court.

Her total charges for unpaid fines were $8,691.64 at the time of her arrest.

“As part of our everyday Pinpoint crime reduction strategy, Red Deer RCMP target areas that are criminally active and targeted prolific offenders who are breaching parole, probation and court-imposed conditions,” says Inspector Gerald Grobmeier of the Red Deer RCMP.

“The warrant round-up is another message to those offenders who continue to fail to appear in court, who breach conditions and who continue to engage in criminal behaviour – if they breach, if they fail to appear, we’re going to pick them up and put them in front of the courts again.”

The warrant round-up was undertaken by members from Red Deer’s Community Response Unit, GIS and general duty, with significant support from municipal staff members including criminal analysts and watch clerks.
