The Lacombe and District 4-H Beef Show and Sale is happening today down at the Central Alberta Agricultural Society Grounds. The Nebraska Beef Club, the Central Lacombe Beef Club, and the East Lacombe Beef Club 4-H members are participating in this sale, with 43 steers being looked over.

The day kicked off this morning at 9:30 with junior, intermediate and senior steers judging, with the grand champions for steers being crowned in the afternoon. This evening, the appreciation supper and trophy presentation will start at 5:00, with the sale starting shortly after at 6:30. The public is welcome to come down and enjoy the auction, as the steers the 4-H members have been raising for the last 200 days will be sold off, which is always a bitter sweet moment for the members.

Ken Chessor is the Chairman of the Lacombe and District Beef Committee, and he says the steers are judged to ensure they are up to the Alberta beef standard.

"The steers here are market steers, so after they have been judged and stuff, they are market ready and will be processed after that. So the judges are looking at the size they are, and the confirmation of them, and how they look, to make sure we still raise triple A beef in Alberta. Lacombe has a great reputation of raising some top quality animals, and we are just here to showcase them".

Alyssa Henderson is a member of Central Lacombe 4-H Beef Club and recently won the 4-H Premiers Award for her outstanding work at various 4-H events throughout the year.

She won the award based on her performance in various 4-H events throughout the years, and for her leadership skills. She also gets to represent 4-H at different events throughout Canada and the United States, something she is very passionate and excited about.

Henderson talks about Ernie, the charity steer that is being raffled off this year.

"Each year the Lacombe district does a charity steer raffle. So members, as their community service activity, sell the tickets to people they know... and they can either get 15 hundred dollars cash if they win the draw, or the steer. And the proceeds this year are donated to the Lacombe Food Bank."
