May 29/17 - Red Deer RCMP have charged the suspect who robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint on February 2, after identifying him soon after the armed robbery and issuing a warrant for his arrest.

On May 16, Blackfalds RCMP arrested the suspect in a separate incident, at which time they notified Red Deer RCMP.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants out of Red Deer, Caroline, Rocky Mountain House and Blackfalds.

In addition to his outstanding warrants for other files, 31 year old Kurt Charles Werner faces the following charges for the February 2 robbery in Red Deer:

· Criminal Code 344(1)(b) – Robbery with weapon
· Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions

Werner made his first appearance in court on May 18 and will appear again on June 1 in Red Deer at 9:30 am.


Feb 7/17 - Red Deer RCMP are looking for public assistance to identify a suspect who robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint the evening of February 2, and are looking to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the incident or seen the suspect as he fled.

An RCMP officer was patrolling in the area of 50 Street and 50 Avenue shortly before 8 pm on February 2 when he was flagged down by a taxi driver who reported he had just been robbed at knifepoint by a customer.

The taxi picked up two men at a gas station in Riverside Meadows at 7:45 pm and drove them to several destinations before one man departed the taxi; as the taxi drove southbound on Gaetz Avenue between 52 Street and 53 Street, the remaining suspect displayed a knife, demanded cash from the driver and exited the taxi, fleeing on foot.

RCMP have obtained surveillance images of the suspect who robbed the taxi driver, and are looking for public assistance to identify him.

The suspect is described as:

· Caucasian
· 25-30 years old
· Had scars on his cheeks and under his eyes
· Wearing a ball cap, a dirty black jacket over a hoodie, and blue jeans
