A 30-year-old man from Rocky Mountain House has been arrested for child luring following an investigation by Rocky Mountain House RCMP and ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.

Tyler James Cumberland was arrested on November 16, 2017 following allegations of online sexualized chats involving a 12-year-old girl.

The two met through social media and the accused was allegedly aware that the victim was underage.

Explicit chats and photos were discovered by the victim’s parents who contacted police in August 2017.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP were able to identify the suspect and make an arrest with the assistance of the ICE unit.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP executed a Search Warrant at a local residence and seized a number of electronic devices for forensic analysis.

The seized items afforded evidence in relation to this case.

We applaud the victim's family for coming forward and contacting police.

"The parent's intervention could have possibly prevented this relationship from progressing and much worse offences being committed," said Staff Sergeant Mark Groves, Rocky Mountain House Detachment Commander.

Cumberland has been charged with:

  • Child luring (x 2);
  • Making child pornography;
  • Possessing child pornography;
  • Accessing child pornography; and
  • Making sexually explicit materials available to a child.

Cumberland is schedule to appear in court on December 6, 2017 in Rocky Mountain House.
