Members of an Alberta fire department are grieving the loss of one of their own.

An off-duty firefighter with the Rocky View Fire Department from Cochrane was on a holiday weekend with his family northwest of Calgary when there was a dirt bike accident.

He was transported from the remote area to the Bearberry Community Centre, but once there, the 30-year-old was pronounced dead.

Rocky View Fire Chief Randy Smith says the man was just starting his career.

From Sundre RCMP: On May 19, 2018 at approximately 2:10 PM, the Sundre RCMP detachment received a report of an off highway, single vehicle collision in a remote area west of Sundre.

First aiders rendered assistance and due to the remote area, transported the injured party to the Bearberry Community centre where they were met by EMS.

STARS attended the scene but sadly, the 30 year old Cochrane resident, was pronounced deceased.

Notifications of next of kin are on going.

The investigation continues and alcohol was determined to not be a factor in this collision.
