It’s been a tough couple of years for Shanti Din and her family, after her 3-year-old son Drevan was diagnosed with soft tissue and muscle cancer in late 2015.

But through it all, the community has rallied around them, showing tremendous support whether it’s donating to her GoFundMe Page or through different fundraisers.

In November of 2016 Drevan began remission, but about a week ago Shanti learned her son’s cancer had relapsed.

Learning the news, and having helped out in the past, Lacombe Ford’s Service Manager Steve Klassen raised $1,000 for Shanti, along with grocery gift cards and a new toy race car for Drevan.

“She’s a young mother with three kids and I don’t think any child should ever have to go through that and I don’t think any parent should have to watch their child go through that. A lot of people here (at Lacombe Ford) believe the same and that’s why we’ve continued to support her.”

“The little guy kind of stole my heart. I’ve been through cancer myself so I felt the need to raise some money.”

Shanti said it’s been overwhelming, the support she’s got from Klassen and the entire Lacombe Ford team.

“They’ve done so much for my family in helping us out. Steve likes to message me all the time for updates and that feels great, that he likes to know what’s going on with Drevan.”

It’s not just Lacombe Ford she’s grateful for, she said the entire community has been there to support her.

“It means there are people out there who actually care. I come from a family that doesn’t show very much support and getting all this support from the community has meant a lot.”

Shanti and Drevan are in Edmonton for the next few weeks for two rounds of chemo plus a 21-day recovery process if all goes well.

Pound It Hip Hop Studio, with Reflections Day Spa are hosting a “Dance for Drevan” fundraiser in the spa’s parking lot on July 16th at 1 p.m. with 100 per cent of donations going straight to the family. Here is the link to her GoFundMe Page.
