From Ponoka RCMP:

The RCMP are investigating a single vehicle collision which occurred shortly after midnight this morning on the QEII.  

One 22-year-old male was transported to the hospital via STARS Air Ambulance where earlier today he succumbed to his injuries.

The RCMP attended with Fire and EMS.  Information gathered on scene indicates that the vehicle was traveling southbound on the QEII south of Highway 53 when it lost control and struck a guardrail.  

The vehicle came to rest facing north in the southbound lanes.

There was only one occupant in the car, and no other vehicles were involved in this collision.

Traffic was delayed while the scene was cleared up.

The RCMP wish to thank the civilians who stopped and provided roadside assistance to the emergency responders.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation by the RCMP.  No further updates are anticipated in relation to this occurrence.
