The 19th Hospitals Lottery in support of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation was kicked off this morning.

145 prizes worth $1.1 million are up for grabs, but more importantly, money raised from the lottery will stay in the community to purchase Technilogically Advanced Patient Peds.

Director of Critical Care at the hospital Robert Swanson says if the lottery sells out, the Foundation will be able to purchase about 25 of these specialized beds.

"We have noticed that there is a decrease certainly in skin break down (bead sores) when we're actually using a theraputic surface. The patients comfort is just as important, so they're able to tolerate longer periods in bed, and still be comfortable even at that point."

The grand prize will once again be a beautiful Sorento custom built home seen above, valued at $840,000.

More than 7 million dollars has been raised since it's inception, all of which has gone to improving the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Robert Bilton Chair of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation says he's greatful for support from the community, but urges them to write a letter to the health minister

"Red Deer per capita from a fundraising perspective, is one of the highest in North America. So the people in Red Deer go way above and beyond. Yet per capita for funding in Red Deer or the Central region, is one of the lowest in the Province. So we need our taxes that we're paying to the government to come back to our community."
