With wait lists for swimming lessons, steady school traffic and well attended open swim times, the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre in Lacombe is a busy place, and the City wants to see the Centre even better utilized.

They've been working with consultants to draft up a 4 phase renovation and expansion plan that stretches up to 20 years and its set to go before City Council on Monday.

City of Lacombe Recreation and Culture Manager Sandi Stewart says many ask why not start planning for a new facility, but she says their review found lots of life left.

“They were very happy with the condition of our current pool and they figured that with our ongoing maintenance and some upgrades that it will last for decades to come so that is definitely the way to the future.  We were happy to hear that we’ve been doing a great job with the facility and our location is great, in the central part of the city and close to all the schools”.

You may remember taking part in a survey that launched in May, asking for your input on renovations and new amenities for the Centre.

Stewart explains what they heard loud and clear.

“Well they definitely wanted to see some upgrades to the change rooms and especially the family change room came out as a high priority.  And then there were improvements to the leisure pool and the hot tub also, as well they were looking for some new amenities like play structures, spray structures, things like that, a sauna would be great they said”.

The first phase under the proposal would see expansion of the change rooms; other phases include the addition of a sauna, spray and play water features, a waterslide, another hot tub, and eventually enhancing the leisure pool and adding a fitness centre and indoor playground.

The City is looking for some feedback on those proposed plans, view them here,  you have until Friday (Sept 22nd) to take a short suvey to provide your feedback.
