A young chess player from Lacombe has started a new club and is encouraging other kings, queens and rooks to get involved.

13-year-old Levi Derowin wanted a place to play chess with his friends, so he walked over to the library at the LMC and the rest is history.

Levi says so far the turnout is pretty good but he'd like to see more pawns come out and play.

“I’d love some more adults to come so they can mentor the younger kids because I am not the best at explaining how to play. It would be great to have some older and more experienced people come.”

Every Mon. and Wed. people of all ages and skill levels are invited to come out from 6 to 7:30 and get their pawns moving.

When Levi isn't playing chess you can find him playing indoor soccer, performing at the KFA theatre and rehearsing for his Junior High Drama Club's school play.
