Team Alberta went head to head with Team Ontario in the wheelchair basketball gold medal game on Thursday night at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The court was booming with cheers from Albertans cheering for their home province and Ontarians who were cheering loud enough to make up for a province miles away.

Alberta and Ontario fought hard stealing the lead from each other throughout the entirety of the game. There was no clear victor until the last whistle blew. The game came down to the very last second where Alberta emerged with a victory in a final score of 51-48

Ceilidh Nordell, a late addition to Team Alberta never thought that she would make it to the gold medal game at the Winter Games and was just excited to be on the court.

“It’s really big. I didn’t think I’d get this far this quick.”

Nordell’s approach to her athleticism was based on a do or do not type mantra, “Don’t keep trying if you’re an athlete, you can do anything you want.”

So far in the standings, Team Alberta remains in second place sitting behind Team Québec and just ahead of Team Ontario.
