Red Deer Rebels General Manager/Head Coach Brent Sutter announced today that Assistant Coach Pierre-Paul Lamoureux has left the team to take a job as Associate Head Coach of the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League.

The Rebels also announced the hiring of Brett Anderson as the new Assistant Coach.

Lamoureux joined the Rebels as an Assistant Coach in June of 2016.

Sutter wished Lamoureux all the best in his next coaching step.

“The Red Deer Rebels would like to thank Pierre for his commitment he made to the organization over this past season as an assistant coach. We wish him and his fiancée Randi all the best in this future endeavor to get to his ultimate goal of becoming a head coach.”

Lamoureux meantime had nothing but gratitude for Sutter and the opportunity he was awarded with the team.

“I'm grateful for the opportunity to work the players and staff in Red Deer. I’ve always considered Red Deer home. To have the chance to coach in the Western League for my alma mater holds special meaning for me. I'm excited to move my coaching career forward and the Rebels have aided in my growth as a coach. I want to give special thanks to the Rebels staff, but a special debt of gratitude to the Sutter, Dakers, Lodge, Truitt, and Froese families for welcoming Randi and I with open arms.”

New Assistant Coach Brett Anderson was Director and Head Coach at the Ontario Hockey Academy in Cornwall, Ontario last season.

Prior to his time with the Ontario Hockey Academy, he was an assistant coach at the University of Saskatchewan in 2012-13, an assistant coach with the University of Alberta Pandas from 2010-2012, an assistant coach with the Red Deer College Queens from 2008-2010, and has spent time as a head coach and assistant coach in both junior and men’s professional programs in Europe.

Anderson is from Sedgewick, Alberta and graduated from Red Deer College with a diploma in Kinesiology and completed his Kinesiology degree at the University of Alberta.

He’s looking forward to being back in Red Deer.

“I’m very excited to be coming home. I look forward to giving back to the Central Alberta community that has given so much to me.”
