The Lacombe Rams football team came out on top last night (Sept. 21) in a close game against the Lindsay Thurber Raiders.

With just under a minute to go in the fourth quarter, it looked the Rams were done, but thanks to some late-game heroics, they came out on top 22-20.

Down 20-16 with just 19 seconds left, wide receiver Richard Jans caught a seven-yard pass from quarterback Johnny Ericson to take the lead.

“Johnny told me to sit down in the end zone, had faith in me and I went out and made the catch. It was game over after that I guess. It felt good to make the catch.”

Jans made two catches for 28 yards along with five carries for 86 yards.

Head Coach Jason Petrie admits his team was sloppy at times, but will take the win and move on.

“Hate to come away from a win feeling like a loss, but you know, hats off to Lindsay Thurber. Boy they played hard, they played well and they’re a really well coached team.”

“Our offensive team just played really well tonight.”

Next up for the Rams is a date with Notre Dame next Friday as they look to go 3-1 on the season.
