Golf professionals from around the globe made the trip to Gull Lake this past weekend for some friendly competition.

Gull Lake Golf Course hosted their 12th annual Gull Lake Pro Am Golf Tournament on Saturday, featuring golfers from the LGPA, PGA and the Canadian tour.

In 64 years as a member of the LGPA tour, Sandra Palmer has won two major championships and says being able to share her experience is something she feels is important.

“It seems to be getting better and better every year. They learn not only golf, but etiquette and they learn how to be around people. It’s tools for life.”

Also on the list of pros was five-time Canadian Tour winner and a three-time US Open participant Perry Parker, who’s become good friends with the owners of Gull Lake Golf Course Eamon and Carla McCann.

He’s says their relationship keeps him coming back.

“Just love the group of people, love the kids. Eamon and Carla have become good friends of mine, they’ve come down to California to visit me so I just support the event as a friendship to them and also to support the kids here locally.”

Parker says he also knows how important it is for kids to have positive influences in their life.

“I grew up playing junior golf and obviously started somewhere and had influences help me become a good golfer so if you can help one or two kids, while you’re here, and they grow into good players or more important good people than I’ve done my job.”

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Junior Golf Foundation of Gull Lake, which is a mentorship program where more experienced junior golfers mentor the younger juniors in golf etiquette.

The amount raised will be determined later in the week.
