Boxers from across the province and from all age groups are heading to Grande Prairie on April 28th for the 2nd annual 'Fight for Hope', a fundraiser put on by a local father after his son was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Their goal this year is to raise half a million dollars, which will be given to the Kids with Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House.

One boxer who is making the trip up there this weekend is 10-year-old Logan MacKinnon of Lacombe, who fights out of the Red Deer Boxing club.

Logan has been boxing for 3 years, and credits his father for getting him interested in the sport.

“My dad used to be a boxer and I wanted to try it out. So he took me to a club, and I fell in love with it.”

He'll be fighting with a specific face in mind, a kid named Lucas from Lacombe who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. The boxing club teams boxers up with someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, for them to represent and fight for in the boxing tournament.

Logan says it's a way they put a face to who they are fighting for.

“Everybody gets a kid to fight for, we all try to get a kid that’s close to our age and where we live, and we fight for their honour.”

The young boxer will meet Lucas this week, and he will be ringside to watch the match on Saturday.

To support Logan, you can stop by the Sunny 94 studio until Friday morning to make a pledge, or you can find out more information by checking out the ‘Fight for Hope’ Facebook page.
