The Lacombe Minor Hockey Association hosted its annual awards ceremony Wednesday night, honoring the very best from each of the minor hockey teams in Lacombe.

From Atom to Midgets, the teams gathered into the Lacombe Memorial Centre for a night of celebration and recognition.

Teams, coaches and parents were on hand to hand out awards, take pictures, and pay tribute to those whom they watched on the ice all winter long, as well as some of the parent volunteers who make hockey seasons and nights like this possible.

Jackie Rider is the registrar for Lacombe Minor Hockey, and she talks about what this night meant to her, not only as a key member of Lacombe Minor Hockey, but also as a parent to a few young hockey players.

“This is year three for me, but I have a player graduating this year, so it’s about year twelve. We still got a 10 year old, so we still have a lot of years left in minor hockey. I think it’s exciting, this is my youngest first time being here, this year I forced his brothers to come and watch him, cause he’s been here for them right, so, I think it’s just exciting, a nice close to the season. I don’t know if many towns do this for their associations”.

Some of the big awards of the night included Aidan Anderson, who won the Keith Randall Memorial trophy for outstanding defenseman for his PeeWee AA team, Kasey Heimstra who picked up the Byron Greff Memorial trophy for most dedicated player on his Bantam AA team, and Sheldon Klessens, who won volunteer of the year award for his almost 15 years’ worth of dedication to Lacombe Minor Hockey.

Sheldon Klessens honored for Volunteer of the Year.
