The Lacombe Fountain Tire Midget A team are off to provincials after pushing through a tough tournament.

They competed in the Hockey Alberta Zone Play downs and pulled out a win which made them qualify for the upcoming provincials.

One of their coaches, Greg Church says their year took a while to gain momentum but their timing turned out to be pretty good.

“We had a slow start to the year but the team has really come along since Christmas, were winning a lot more games than we were at the start and that’s a good sign for this time of year,” says Church.

The big end tournament will be the last of their season and takes place down in Calgary, and for some it’s new.

“For some of them it’s their first time at provincials I think we only have one team member that’s ever won,” Church explains, “They’ve been working towards this goal all year.”

Their first game of the weekend is on Friday at 9:30 against Foothills, following with a game against the Hughenden Jets.

Then on Saturday they will take on the Glenlake Hawks as well as the Athabasca Hawks.

On Sunday, depending on the results they could play in semi-finals and finals.
