It was an unlucky game for the Lacombe Generals against the Rosetown Redwings on Saturday night. It was the first game back from a break for the holidays and The Generals were just not getting the puck in the net.

In the first period, the Generals were slow to start ending the first period with a three-goal deficit to the Rosetown Redwings.

In the second period, they were able to pick it up a notch scoring their first goal. However, the Rosetown Red Wings scored their fourth goal, leaving the score 1-4 for the Generals heading into the third period.

Jeff McInnis, The Lacombe Generals general manager was not too discouraged during halftime saying, “It’s the first game back from a break and I like the way we are playing. I like what I see. Sometimes it just doesn’t bounce your way but I am happy so far.”

The Lacombe Generals had a booming third period, scoring another two goals and gaining many shots on net. They fought hard, pulling their goalie, and kept the puck near the Rosetown Redwing net, in an attempt to tie the game and push it into overtime. Despite the efforts, the Lacombe Generals could not get that last goal in to tie the game.

The score was left at 4-3 for the Rosetown Red Wings. The shots on net were 61-23 for the Lacombe Generals.

The game on Sunday, January 13 against the Stony Plains Eagles has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict, and the next game will be on Friday, January 18 at 8:30 pm in Innisfail against the Innisfail Eagles.

And with the Allan cup quickly approaching, the Lacombe Generals are actively seeking volunteers to help run the national tournament.

“You’ll see us on social media trying to get volunteers, and the fact of the matter is, it’s a big job to host that national tournament so yes, we do need volunteers, so if people would step up and help us, boy would we appreciate it.” -Jeff McInnis.

The Allan cup will be held from April 8th to 13th.
