Lacombe Rams Junior Varsity boys’ volleyball team is 0-1 to start the season after tonight’s (Sept. 21) 3-0 loss to the Hunting Hills Lightning.

Rams dropped the first set 25-21 and the next two sets 26-24 and 25-18.

It wasn’t what they were hoping for, but head coach Stacy Hunter said there were still a lot of positives in the loss.

“We have a lot of raw potential on this team. A lot of players have never played together and a lot of Grade 10s. I appreciated the leadership I saw from the Grade 11s who were on the floor. This will be a good team.”

The season almost didn’t happen for this team as Hunter said there weren’t enough players showing interest until the very last minute. He said it showed on the court.

“We were getting ourselves sorted out. This being our first game, we just had to get ourselves organized. I think we accomplished that and now we can focus on volleyball.”

The team will look next to a tournament this weekend at Hunting Hills starting tomorrow afternoon and are guaranteed five games.
