The Lacombe Generals took out the Rosetown Red Wings 5-3 to win the Allan Cup Hockey West league championship on Saturday night.

Kyle Bailey scored a hat trick while Dylen McKinlay and Jesse Todd contributed goals of their own. Dylan Nowakowski finished with three assists and goaltender Steven Stanford made 36 saves.

Lacombe advanced to the final after beating the Stony Plain Eagles on Friday night.

Even though the league championship has no bearing on Lacombe’s hopes for the Allan Cup, forward Alex McLeod said the Generals would still play to win.

“I still want that trophy. We still want it. This room wants to win tomorrow. Rosetown kind of got the best of us last time we were out there. They beat us two times. We want to go back in there and show that we’re here for real and we’re not someone they can walk over,” he said on Friday.

He added that the game would help them practice playing in a single-game knockout.
