Lacombe Generals finished 6-0 against the Innisfail Eagles this season with a win Wednesday night in Chinook Hockey League Action.

Generals beat the Eagles 6-2 while outshooting them 39-19.

It was the Generals fourth win in a row and Head Coach Curtis Austring said his team did a good job of putting the puck in the net at opportune times.

“Timely goals were part of it. Timely scoring when you needed it, but at the end of the day it’s always competitive so I think the guys get up for these ones,” said Austring.

Austring said it’s not always easy playing a game in the middle of the week, but he thought they competed hard and did a lot of good things.

"Wednesday nights are sometimes tough. It’s kind of out of the norm, you have to come from work and travel all the way,” said Austring.

“I thought our guys put in a good effort. Overall I thought our guys played a really strong game.”

Captain Don Morrison said the team has really come together of late and said it’s been showing in the win column.

“It’s a different year this year. There’s been a lot of turnovers with some guys who had to learn what Generals hockey was all about and it’s come a long ways,” said Morrison.

“The guys are really buying in and I think we have a really good squad.”

Morrison added there is no better time to get hot with the regular season coming to end.

“We want to have a good run here heading into the playoffs and right now guys are buying in and are playing solid hockey,” said Morrison.

It’s been a common theme this year for the Eagles to play the Generals tough and tonight was no different.

“There’s quite a rivalry between us. It brings the best out of both teams and everybody comes to play when we play against each other,” said Morrison.

“It’s great competition.”

Generals look to finish strong heading into the playoffs when they face off against the Stony Plain Eagles Friday night in Lacombe. Game time is 8 p.m.
